I see you…And I hear you!
That is why I am SO EXCITED to share my go-to brownies with you! These are so good! I have taken these to many events, and everyone always loves them!
I never need to “excuse them” as being a healthier, subpar version of a dessert. They can sit proudly with all the other desserts, worthy of being enjoyed by all! :)
No one would guess that they are free of gluten, dairy, soy, sugar, seed oils, additives, preservatives, and can be made egg-free.
Read on to learn about these fabulous brownies and how you, too, can proudly bring them to any function!
Otto’s Naturals Paleo Double Chocolate Brownie Mix
Ingredients:
Organic Coconut Sugar
Organic Cassava Flour
Organic Maple Sugar
Organic Natural Cocoa Powder
Dutch Cocoa Powder
Sea Salt
Ingredients to add:
2 Eggs (read below for AIP and Vegan options)
1/2 Cup Avocado Oil
1 tsp Vanilla
And that is it!! Super easy!!
FYI…I am not an affiliate. I just love these and know others will enjoy them too!
Making the Batter
I first mix the eggs, avocado oil, and vanilla together until they are well blended.
Then I add the Otto’s Naturals Mix. Again, mix until well combined.
The batter will be a bit on the thicker side. This is a good thing, as it means the brownies turn out fudge-like…which I personally consider an essential feature of a brownie!
Ready To Be Baked!
Once it is all mixed, you will spread it into an 8x8 parchment-lined dish.
As I said, it is thick. So you will need a spatula to spread it well.
The instructions say to bake it for 25-30 minutes.
For my oven, I bake it for 25 minutes, and it comes out perfect every time!
Tips For Cutting Them
The key is to let them cool completely; otherwise, they will pull apart.
Personally, I find that they taste best and cut the best when they cool overnight in the fridge.
To cut them, I use the spatula that is pictured. Cutting from above in a downward motion works best, versus trying to drag a knife across.
The package says that no refrigeration is necessary, but I do store them in the fridge. I like how they taste after being chilled, but they are totally fine to sit out for an event.
Elimination Phase AIP, Vegan, and Egg Allergy Options
To make these brownies compliant with the elimination phase of AIP or a vegan diet, just use an egg substitute.
For AIP, a gelatin egg would work.
Here is a link to a video showing you how to make a gelatin egg.
For AIP or vegan, you can use a flax egg or chia egg.
Here is a link for instructions on making a flax egg.
And instructions on making a chia egg.
Of the options above, I have used gelatin eggs before, and they have worked well. However, I have not tried it with this mix, so I cannot say from experience how it would turn out. I would imagine they would still be great!
Bonus…They Freeze Great!!
I place the individually cut pieces in a BPA free freezer bag and store them in the freezer.
They defrost quickly and are great for when you want a sweet treat!
And yes, you may notice that a few are missing. Some brownies may or may not have been consumed during their photoshoot! ;)
Hey, can you blame me?! They are just too good to pass up!
Where To Buy The Mix, and How Much Does It Cost
I’ll be honest, the mix is on the expensive side. It is typically around $10-$11 per mix. But if you are looking for a dessert option that checks all the boxes, is easy to make, tastes great, and is satisfying as a sweet treat, you may find that it is worth the price. Not to mention, if you are just making a batch to freeze, you are getting 16 satisfying, healthy desserts for that price… less than a dollar per brownie!
Regarding where to buy it, Wegman’s used to carry it, but they are no longer at the Wegman’s I shop at. FYI…I will be making a request to bring them back! ;)
You can order it directly from Otto’s Naturals website by clicking here. It is $9.99 for a single bag and $59.99 for a 6-pack.
You can also order it from Amazon. They have their individual bags for $11.10. Their 6-pack is usually $54.99, but it’s discounted by 25% for their Prime Day sale, bringing it to $41.24! That makes them $6.87 per bag! That sale runs through Saturday, June 27th. Click this link to see their options.
Just to Clarify…
If you are new to me, I just wanted to clarify my stance on packaged healthy foods and the higher costs surrounding them.
You will never hear me say to swap all your regular packaged foods with cleaner versions of packaged foods.
Ideally, I encourage clients to be as whole-food-based as possible and to save the healthy, clean packaged foods for what matters most to them.
In case it isn’t obvious, I take my brownies very seriously! ;) Personally, it is my thing, and so for me, it is an area that I am okay with splurging on.
So if it is your thing too, and you are looking for a swap that checks all the boxes, I hope you get to enjoy this fully satisfying brownie, too… without compromising your health goals!
